Why do they make different shades a foundation if they're suppost to match ur skin tone?

Almay has smart shade that supposed to blend into ur skin tone so does Revlon and many others. what i want to know is they automatically change to ur skin tone then why do they come in different shade? why not just make a bottle of white foundation and then u apply it it changes to the color of ur skin? Why do they make different shades a foundation if they're suppost to match ur skin tone?
Because it isn't magical... They still need to differentiate between lighter, medium, and darker skin tones. It doesn't really blend and match as perfectly as they advertise, that's why they need to make a few different shades. Why do they make different shades a foundation if they're suppost to match ur skin tone?
My sister has that Almay foundation. They have to make light, medium and dark shades because the foundation only goes to a certain color. Do you know what I mean? It can't go from being super light to a brown. Like the person said above me, it isn't magical.
