How to choose the correct foundation shade?

when choosing a foundation shade should i go lighter or darker if i am having problems finding a correct match? also should my foundation match my face or my neck since my face and my neck are somewhat of a diffrent tone? How to choose the correct foundation shade?
Match it with your face and if your neck is lighter than your face go one shade lighter for powder and I mean powder not a compact so it will blend in with your neckHow to choose the correct foundation shade?
Go to clinique they will match you.
Loreal Paris and Revlon have shade match guides located in front of their displays in many stores.

The one that disappears when you hold it up to your face is your shade.

Otherwise try a cosmetics counter in your local department store. The people at the counters have been trained in cosmetics.
MAKE SURE ITS THE COLOR OF YOUR COMPLECTION!
Go to a mary kay consultant and have her help you pick one out. you need to find one that blends your skin tones. Testing on your arm/hand is NOT the way to find your foundation shade either. The way to CORRECTLY tell depends on your race.....yes it does.
It is imerative to choose a foundation shade that is slightly darker (1 shade typically) than your natural skin tone.
Make sure the color of liquid makeup you choose matches your neck so you don鈥檛 have a makeup line.

Stand in natural light if possible to get the best result from your color match.

If you are matching the makeup on your fore-arm match it in an area where the sun does not hit, this will help ensure the skin is the same color as your face and neck.

Decide what skin tone you have; cool or warm. The cool tone has pink undertones and the warm skin tone has yellow undertones. If you know your skin tone then you can focus on liquid makeup with the right color of undertones. Good Luck!
You can find a perfect match to your skin tone at aularale.com/7002 because it matches your undertones. Look at the models and choose the one that has the skin tone closest to your own.
match the color of your neck, so loghter than your face
If you have olive skin go for a slightly darker yellow or golden foundation, if fair go one shade lighter.
lThis is a no miss problem. Have you heard of Bare Minerals? Its tested and tests reveal that powder foundations let the skin breath all day. Does not clog pours, GIVES A NATURAL GLOW...Look up Bare Minerals on line. Don't be fooled as many companies are following Bare Minerals ways. There you can chose a powder foundation always go a shade liter than our skin tone. You can use the blush called Warmth, which makes any skin tone radiate healthy glow. Good luck ';OCEAN'; PS remember you can mix the powders foundation to et the perfect colour
Loreal True Match foundation, you can buy it anywhere...it hides blemishes/spots and blends wonderfully with any skin tone/color.
go the lightest darker possible shade. b/c it will lighten up on your face. if your face and neck are dfferent shades they will wven up with the foundation. get the color of your face not neck
well if you use concealer to cover up blemishes you need it to be lighter than your foundation ! find a makeup that matches your face and that is not that different from your neck shade.
If you live near a macys or major department store ask one of the sales girls in the makeup department...they are happy to help you find your correct shade and you don't have to purchase any of the products there (although you may want to)
put thu foundtaion on the inside of your arm thats your real skin coulor
Hey great question, as a rule you should always make a line at your jawline and try to have it blend in in as closely to your natural skin tone.
It should match your skintone. Like your face's color. Try going to an Estee Lauder, Clinique, or MAC Make-Up counter and they can match you! =]
