If I am NW20 in mac foundation, what shade would i be in make up for ever Matifying Foundation?

i do know about sephoras shade finder. If I am NW20 in mac foundation, what shade would i be in make up for ever Matifying Foundation?
I am a makeup artist, and I work for Mac.

I've done a little research, and you are probably a #20 in the MUFE's Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation. I say probably, because it's almost impossible to tell your exact match unless you try the product first. Sometimes foundations can oxidize, and this would be a problem for you, seeing as how you have pink undertones, the color would be way off.

I have used this foundation before, and will tell you that unless you have very oily skin, this product will dry your face out. It is meant for oily skin, and contains silica which is a drying agent.

Hope this helps! :)

What shade of bare minerals foundation should I get?

I normally wear a ';natural ivory'; foundation. I have fair/light skin with freckles. I want to try Bare Minerals but I can't decide between Fair and Light? Can anyone help? What shade of bare minerals foundation should I get?
Bare Minerals is wonderful ...I think it is great that you are gonna try it. I would call this number 1 (800) 266-9135 and ask them to help you match a shade. I know that they would be more than happy to help you.....

http://store.bareescentuals.com/on/deman鈥?/a>

Also, QVC is a big promoter of Bare Minerals and they have a starter kit for $44.00 and they offer thirty day money back if you are not happy with the product ....

Good Luck and I hope you like Bare Minerals ~~~What shade of bare minerals foundation should I get?
Try the Sephora website, their shade finder is pretty good. Be aware that the Fair does not come in a kit, only Fairly Light and Light are in the lightest color kit. If you order from Sephora and the color is too dark you can send it back. If you order from the Bare Escentuals website you can call and tell them that the shade doesn't work and they will send you another color to try. The kit is good in the sense that you get brushes and a dvd to show you how to apply the makeup.

Edit: It looks like the Fair now comes in a kit on the Bare Escentuals website.
ive heard alot of bad things about that product like it irritates skin and the best 1 out ther is everday mnerals u should check it out

  • Would it be wierd if i'm tan and i use a lighter shade of foundation?

like my face and neck would be of diff shades. If not, how can i be fairer? i already use sunblock everyday.Would it be wierd if i'm tan and i use a lighter shade of foundation?
It's fine to use a foundation that's slightly lighter than your natural shade. Just like when girls who fake tan their bodies have slightly lighter faces in proportion, it's not noticeable.

However, it's important to blend the foundation down onto your neck with a sponge so that there's a gradual color change and not a distinct line around the jaw line.

Since you're using a full face of light foundation, it's important to realise that you'll be hiding a lot of your bone structure and natural facial color variation. Make sure to use blush/bronzer and highlighter to reemphasize your cheek- and eyebrow bones and add color to your face.Would it be wierd if i'm tan and i use a lighter shade of foundation?
First of all, learn to accept your skin color the way it is. Second, no it's not a good idea to wear makeup lighter than the rest of your body. Matching your face to the rest of you will look the best and most natural.
if you use a completely lighter or different shade ,your face would gonna look artificial. in summer do not go for foundation. i prefer using ponds white beauty with ayur sunblock. gives me fairness n sun protection:)
why would you want to do that? people pay money to be tan.

    Foundation. Changing Shades?? ?

No Foundation Is Ever Light Enough To Match My Skin !?!?

Is There AnyWay To Get Foundation, And Make It Lighter Than Originally??

    Please Help.

And No. Im Not Buying White Paste Cause Im Not That Light!!Foundation. Changing Shades?? ?
Avon has this mineral makeup that is great! They have a shade that is called transparent glow and this is the lightest shade you will find anywhere! If you don't need one that light they have 12 different shades so it is easy to find one for your skin. They even have a 100% guarantee so if it doesn't work for you then you can just return it and try a different color!

Heres a link. I hope this helps!Foundation. Changing Shades?? ?
If price isn't an object for you, you could try Face Atelier's Foundation in Zero Minus. It's a product that you can add to your foundation to lighten it a shade. It costs $42, so I think if you're willing to spend that amount of money, you might as well go for a high end makeup brand that will definitely have your color. I'm not sure which brands you've tried, so I'm not sure what brands to suggest, but you could probably try Sephora's wesbite and search for foundations for porcelain skin and maybe you'll find one that works for you. Good luck!
i agree with the first answer and also sally beauty supply just started selling a new line of mineral makeup and i was impressed with their colors. you could try that first. they are about 7.00 for foundation and they will let u try it b4 u buy it.
Theres really a lot you could do. There are so many products out there so what I end up doing is starting cheap and trying out a few different ones. The review site is pretty good at http://www.brandsmakeup.com visit and look around at the reviews.
    .
mix your foundation with lotion [about half and half]. It will lighten it up a lot, and it willgo on smoother.
go to a make up store and ask the makeup artist to help you

Can someone name or post a link to a website where there's a list of the different shades of foundation/concealer. For reasons beyond my control I won't be able to visit a store to test the foundation on my skin personally, so please provide a list from which I'll be able to choose from.

Why is it important to have the right shade of foundation?

A shade that's the wrong color for your skin tone will never blend properly. Shades that are too light will make you look pasty, and shades that are too dark will make you look like an Oompa Loompa. The point of foundation isn't to change your skin tone; it's to even it out and give you a smooth base for the rest of your makeup. Why is it important to have the right shade of foundation?
You will look strange if you buy the wrong shade. There was a girl who worked in a local video store. In the summer she got a nice tan, but failed to change her foundation. As a result her face was unnaturally pale when compared to the rest of her skin tone and you could tell it was foundation. Why is it important to have the right shade of foundation?
    too dark - orange.

too light - ghostly unmatched face.

    just right - flawless.

  • Can anyone help me decide what shade of bare minerals foundation I should get?

I wear cover girl true blend 420 creamy natural. What shade of bare minerals will be right for me?Can anyone help me decide what shade of bare minerals foundation I should get?
Do you have a Sephora or Ulta nearby? You can go in and actually put on the different shades (for free!) before you buy it. You'll definitely get the right shade; Bare Minerals is very forgiving. If you get it close, you get it right. :)

Good luck! Can anyone help me decide what shade of bare minerals foundation I should get?
Without seeing a picture it is hard to tell. Cover Girl 420 is a level 2 which usually mean light/medium with most brands, so you might want to try light or medium. Here is there color chart

    http://www.bareminerals.com/on/demandwar鈥?/a>

The best thing to do is go to the boutique and have one of the advisors match you.
I want to be brutally honest Bare Minerals is the worst product you can use on your face because it contains bismuth which is an arsenic lead product that clogs pores and irritates your skin badly.
when you get the starter kit it comes with different shades ini either light medium or dark...you try them both and when you need to buy more you just buy the one color that looked best on you.

Which brand has the best range of shades in foundations for Asian skin?

I've tried all sorts, and just can't get the right shade, even Ruby and Millie have a limted range of shades!!Which brand has the best range of shades in foundations for Asian skin?
Lancome is the brand my asian girlfriend usesWhich brand has the best range of shades in foundations for Asian skin?
If you cant find something at walgreens, maybe you should try going to a more expensive makeup counter in a store like marshall's. Perscriptives has good foundation, but its very expensive, around 26 dollars a bottle. I like to use loreal true match because it can fit just about anyone, or covergirl. If you find one color that is just a little bit too light, and another that is just a little bit too dark, why dont you try buying one of each and mixing them together?

I dont know what to tell you other than that. I hate how makeup is directed towards either white or black women, and nothing else. Just kind of annoys me.

Maybe if you go to an asian store near by and search for their makeup. Whenever I go to one of those stores I cant find a color that fits me anywhere, so maybe you would have more luck doing something like that.
Great foundation for Asian skin Nars, MAC, Prescriptives, Laura Mercier and Chanel. Your best bet is to go into a make up counter and ask them to colour match you, that way you can feel which textures you perfer.
    Shiseido.

    and, Lancome.

    great colors and compatibility...

    Good Luck :)
Try Zhen. It's created by Asian women.
I don't usually answer questions like this, but the inner make-up junkie in me just couldn't resist! Let's see, SKII and Shiseido have a good range for Oriental skin. I also recommend Bobby Brown. They have a huge range for all Asian skin shades. In particulaar, their ';Foundation Stick'; gives good adjustable coverage without the conventional heaviness of cream-type foundations. If these don't work for you, try Prescriptives' custom blended foundations. This is ideal in theory, but not all of the staff can do this competently. Make an appointment with their BEST make up artist if possible.

    Good luck!
i used avon and it had some good shades that fit me and are meant to adjust to ur natural skin tone
Get some Bare Minerals !!!!! It's very forgiving on ANY skin color. they have a wide range of shades and you can custom blend your own. It's a little expensive,But lasts a very long time.
    liquid foundation by Prescriptives .
The best brand for Asian skin is 'Mac.' If you find your local retailer ask them to find you the perfect match for you. They are really good. A bit pricey but well worth it.

Is concealer supposed to be 1 shade lighter than your foundation? Or the same color as the foundation?

I've never worn concealer because I've never had acne. But lately I've been in the sun and I'm starting to get a little bit of pink on my cheeks. I want to use the concealer to even out the pink.

Should I get concealer that is 1 shade lighter than my foundation? Or should the concealer be the same color as the foundation? Is concealer supposed to be 1 shade lighter than your foundation? Or the same color as the foundation?
one shade lighter, because layering foundation over concealer will make it darker. you want the skin to be an even color.

good luck, beautiful lady!Is concealer supposed to be 1 shade lighter than your foundation? Or the same color as the foundation?
concealer should usually be a shade lighter than foundation. concealer has a thicker consistency than foundation, so if you have the same shade foundation and concealer the concealer can look darker because it's thicker and you use more. it's best to buy one that's lighter so it blends with your foundation better.
1 shade for your face and minor blemishes, 2 shades for major blemishes and dark under eye circles.
concealer should be a bit lighter so that when you apply foundation it will all look nice and even.

  • Does the Almay Smart Shade FOundation Work?

Does the Almay Smart Shade FOundation Work?

I have a hard time getting any type of foundation. Does the Almay really work im Latina and in the sun i tan i get brown( but not so much). Right now my skin is more or less like my avatar so should i choose the light medium or the medium? And does the smart shade bronzer work? to its winter in NYC no tan for me!!! LOL plz and thank u!Does the Almay Smart Shade FOundation Work?
Not really ... it is just basically a light foundation (not very pigmented) so it will blend with more people's skin type. It didn't even cover minor flaws on my face, let alone a pimple or something. I tried the blush and I am pasty, pasty white and I couldn't even see it. So if it won't show up on me, it won't show up on anyone.

Have your tried L'Oreal True Match or the L'Oreal HiP foundations, they are very good at matching skin tones for drug store brands. They are based on 3 different undertones so you can get an exact match.Does the Almay Smart Shade FOundation Work?
No probaly not. It MIGHT work for you not sure. I'm half White half Latina/Native American and I'm darker than you and that stuff don't work for me. My best guess is just try L'Oreal Make-Up they make alot of good make-up for people with darker skintones. Since your lighter than me though it might for you though. Good Luck though!
    Absolutely Not!!
No. It kind of does, but it wipes off easily and is kind of dry...yet oily at the same time...hmm... I perfer covergirl.
idk but it might because a lot of almay products work well.

i suggest buying it at rite aid and trying it out because at rite aid you can return products for the value you paid even after using them.
    NO.

    Just plain and simple no.

    Its dry, and turns orange.

    Use TRUblend

    Foundation colorprint shades? Y/O, R/O, R, B/R...?

Which one of these will cover redness? Or balance out redness...Foundation colorprint shades? Y/O, R/O, R, B/R...?
the only ones that cover or balance redness are the green ones. try using a green concealer with foundation and powder overtop. itll look flawless. (expierence)Foundation colorprint shades? Y/O, R/O, R, B/R...?
Foundation is not meant to cover your skin. If you use foundation as a cover-up, then it will look blotchy and everyone will be able to tell that you are wearing makeup.

If your skin has a reddish undertone, then R is an appropriate shade for your face.

If the redness is not a natural part of your skintone, then try looking for a soothing face wash and moisturizer combination.

Also, concealers with a slight tint of green or blue will balance out the red.
Like on your cheek? Use this face wash it makes all your redness go away it take a while like a couple weeks, anyway its called Aveeno calming something lol.You can use green concealer to cover it up before your foundation on. For the foundation part use whatever matches you i guess.

How do can you tell if you are buying the correct shade of foundation/powder?

I always think that I am getting the correct shade, but it always turns out to be too light, or to golden

And is loose powder better than pressed powder? How do can you tell if you are buying the correct shade of foundation/powder?
Some people actually have to mix a few colors to get the right shade for their skin. Nothing wrong with that. So try mixing and see what that does.

Color match to your neck. Don't judge the color against your hand, or anywhere else on your body, because it won't be accurate. You match the color to your neck so that when you apply your foundation, there's no line at your jawline that shows. You should not look like you're wearing foundation.

And for the powder, I find that a pressed is easier for travel and to carry around for quick touch-ups throughout the day. So if you're on the go a lot, you might opt for the pressed. If you don't have to worry about too much shine throughout the day, just using a loose powder in the morning should be fine.

If you have a problem with always getting the wrong foundation color, I would suggest finding a Mary Kay consultant in your area (you can go to www.marykay.com), and she can help you find the perfect foundation for your skin tone and type. How do can you tell if you are buying the correct shade of foundation/powder?
i perfer pressed powder, but loose powder is better if you want a powder foundation, but loose powder and pressed powder are equal, it depends on what you are looking for

you can open the container(if you can) and then put a little dab on the inside of your fore-arm (the whitest part) and then see if it is sort of close to your face shade if there is a mirror, so you can see how it looks on skin. it SHOULD be a couple shades darker, because your face is more tan than your arm.
The best thing to do is go to Clinique or some other makeup counter in the mall. They have samples out so you can match them to your skin. The skin on your hand down between your forefinger and thumb is the closest to your face. You'll also probably need different colors for the summer and winter since the pigment in your skin will be different.

I definitely prefer loose powder because it doesn't look caked on.
I was having the same problem. Either it was too light, too dark, too yellow, too pink.....I just could not find the right shade. I finally went to Sephora and had them help me choose a correct color foundation and they matched my skin exactly. So, I would suggest that you go to Sephora or to a make-up counter in a department store and ask one of the make-up consultants to help you. Even if you don't purchase the foundation that they are selling, you can at least see what is your proper color and go from there.
The best thing to use is Loreal Bare Naturals...it is a loose powder but sticks good like foundation...it is similar the Bare Minerals they advertise. It covers up VERY WELL and stays all day long!

The best thing I always do is put it next to the top of my hand and check the color to see if it matches...you don't want it TOO light or you will look ';ghostly white'; but you don't want it too dark where you face is darker than the rest of your body or neck! You just want it to blend in and cover flaws.

I quit using foundation 2 years ago when I discovered this Loreal stuff...I LOVE IT!
The new mineral makeups are absolutely fabulous to wear and very easy to blend. Go to a makeup counter in Myers or DJ's and get the beautician to give you a free makeover. You'll be able to tell by their advise what works best for you. After all, it's their job and they do this every day with their expertise. You also don't need powder with this type of makeup. Good luck!
If when you apply your foundation...if the foundation looks like a maske when you put it on it is not your correct color. You need a foundation that is going to match your skin yet make your skin look flawless. Depending on skin tone loose powder is good as long as you get good products.(ex: bare minerals)
Open the bottle and spread a little of the foundation on your hand, if it blends in, you have the correct shade, if not, go lighter or darker. I prefer loose powder to pressed myself, but neither is really ';better'; than the other.
loose powder is better for your skin.

natural light is best so if there is a window near by go over to it and hold up the make-up to your neck.
Pressed powder is better as it is more firm.

Try the foundation on your hand to see if it is in tone with your skin colour before purchasing :-)
    just buy them all

How do you determine the right foundation makeup shade best for you?

I forgot were I learned this from but if you want to see what foundation shade is best for you rub your skin kind of hard and see what color it is after you rub it.

I got this off of a website-----

Finding the correct shade of foundation, powder or concealer can be a difficult task. Our shade guide will help you determine your own skin tone and depth, which will allow you to determine your overall shade. Once you find your shade, you can find the foundation, powder or concealer that's best for you.

The first step in finding your shade is to simply look at your skin, without makeup, in daylight. Regardless of whether your skin is very pale or very dark, you should be able to determine whether your skin has more yellowish or more pinkish tones to it. If your skin looks more Yellow/Golden Olive or Golden toned, you have warmer toned skin. If your skin seems to be more of a neutral shade, you have neutral toned skin. If your skin looks more pinkish, you have cool toned skin.

If you can't tell what tone your skin has just by looking at it, the next step is to take a look at your undertones, which can be determined by looking at the veins on the underside of your forearm. If your veins look blue, then you most likely have pinkish undertones, which would mean you have cool toned skin. If your veins look more greenish, then you have yellow or golden undertones, which would mean you most likely have warmer toned skin.

Once you have determined your skin tone, you can next determine the depth of your skin tone. Skin will range from very pale to very deep. It should be fairly easy to determine the depth of your own skin. If you aren't able to decide on your own, someone else should be able to help tell you whether your skin is fair/pale, medium or dark/deep.

Now that you know your skin tone and depth, you can determine your overall shade. Makeup shades will almost always fall into the warm, neutral or cool categories we discussed above and will also be differentiated by the depth of each shade. So, for each category of warm, neutral and cool, there will be a corresponding shade to match pale shades of each tone, medium tones of each shade and deep shades of each tone.

Most cosmetics companies will make foundations in a range of colors and it should be easy to find your match once you know your skin tone and depth. For instance, they will offer different shades for warm toned/pale skin as opposed to warm toned/dark skin. Similarly, they will have different shades available for cool toned/medium skin and cool toned/dark skin.

Here are a few more things to keep in mind:

When actually purchasing your foundation shade, you will want to make sure you use the depth of the skin near your jawline or neck area as your criteria for determining your match. This helps to ensure flawless blending and to avoid ending up with a face that's too light or too dark that doesn't match the rest of your skin! If you simply try to match the depth of the skin tone on your forehead or cheeks, you will often end up with a shade that looks too dark compared to the rest of you. Choose the shade that matches the depth of the skin on your jawline/neckline, and then use a Bronzer or Skinfinish to highlight or add ';sun'; to your face, if desired.

Also, when it comes to actual makeup application, be sure to blend foundations and powders around the jawline and into the neckline.

For concealers, you may want to try a concealer with a slight tint to it. This will help cover up dark under-eye circles or reddish imperfections. Slightly yellowish tones will help to cancel out and cover up dark purpleish/blueish undereye circles. Sometimes just selecting a concealer that is a few shades lighter than your regular foundation will also work well for diminishing under-eye circles. Slightly greenish toned concealers will help to cancel out any reddish tones in your skin caused by acne, or other skin conditions.

If you have a significant undertone to your skin, you may choose to play it up or play it down by trying a shade that includes or excludes your undertones.

Often, people will wear a few different shades throughout the year because skin shade and tone can change slightly according to the season, physical well being and general lighting.

If you are still having trouble determining your skin tone, you should stop by a makeup counter and have a makeup artist help you out. They will almost always be able to easily tell you what undertones you have, and will be able to help you determine your overall shade to ensure you select the correct shade prior to your purchase

And I got this off of another website-----

Want to even out your complexion, minimize pores, and add a pretty glow to your skin? All you need is the right foundation! To find the one that will work best with your skin, use these steps:

Step 1: Determine your skin type. It will dictate the foundation formula you should buy. Got oily skin? An oil-free, liquid foundation with a matte finish will keep shine away, but won't clog pores. If you have dry skin, a cream foundation with a dewy finish will add hydration plus a soft sheen. And for combination skin, a liquid or cream-to-powder foundation with a natural finish looks best.

Step 2: Hit the department store. The No. 1 rule in buying foundation is that you must test it on your skin. While drugstore foundations may be of high quality, their packaging doesn't allow a try-on. That's why it's wise to splurge on foundation at the department store. There, you can try on an array of shades and formulas, and get help from a counter makeup artist.

Step 3: Stick to yellow-based shades. Foundations with a yellow base or undertone work the best, as they give a natural look (most of us have yellow in our skin, no matter how dark or rosy we are). Avoid foundations with obvious pink or peach casts, which look unnatural on virtually everyone.

Step 4: Choose three or four shade options. The counter makeup artist can help you here. Because foundations today come in such a broad range of shades, several may look like they'll work for you. Try on a few before you make a decision.

Step 5: Test it right. Forget about testing foundation on your hand or wrist -- your face is most likely a different color. Instead, use a cotton swab to swipe your three or four shade possibilities at your jawline.

Step 6: Examine in natural light. The best way to figure out which of your test shades is right is by looking at them in natural light. The one that seems to blend into your skin with no noticeable outline is your perfect match. (Don't see a perfect match in the four you tested? Sorry if it's too long!

Hope this helps! How do you determine the right foundation makeup shade best for you?
The best place to test a foundation is on your jawline, and then you either buy the same shade as your skin or one shade lighter to brighten up your face and/or look younger.

You may have trouble buying foundation that isn't too beige or too pink, so try different ranges and brands. How do you determine the right foundation makeup shade best for you?
the best way to determine the right foundation shade is to test it on your jawline. comparing it to the back of your hand may be inaccurate. if you're at a department store, they usually have someone who will help you find the right shade. some makeup companies have charts at the store that show you what each shade looks like. they usually tell you to compare it to the back of your hand, but i suggest you keep a mirror handy and compare the color to your jawline, as this will be the most accurate.
first off, do not test on ur hand!!! no ones hand is the same shade as their face. test it on ur neck or face. u should probably go for one a little lighter than ur skin tone. if u really don't know which ones to try or pick, go to any department stores with a cosmetic department (macy's. any big ones) and ask someone at the unter to help u find the right foundation. i hope u find one that works

p.s try both liquid and powder, it depends on what kind of skin you have (dry, oily...)
You go to a counter and try out several colours on your skin. the one that seems to fade in and does not stand out, either too dark or too light; is the one for you.
when you go to a nice store like ultra or some places in dillards, the clerks will let you try some on. If you can open it then try holing it up to your hand or face. if it looks similar then try it. or go a shade lighter.
well if you do mary kay the people will find the perfect one for you.
Well most of the time, they don't know how to match your skin tone, I've experienced through that, well you should find your right tone by blending a little foundation on your jaw, blend it and see if tone matches your skin.
actually i kind of got fed up looking for the perfect match for my skin, which has a tan-brown colour, either it get too dark or it stands out,or looks like a layered cake.so i just stopped using foundation.not totally, sometimes on special occasions but not daily.as a daily routine makeup i started using a tinted moisturiser,a lighter tone than my skin tone and then i use a bronzer as an overall finishing touch.and i know i looked great and so did alot of my friends.
i would suggest going to the makeup counter at your local department store. they should be able to give you a good match. tell them what your are looking for as far as coverage and your skin concerns.

http://s201.photobucket.com/albums/aa308鈥?/a>How do i find the best shade for my foundation?
Hello Smiley! You are a beautiful young lady, sorry to hear that you are experiencing trouble finding the correct color foundation. I definately understand that being a woman of color myself :(

But here is what you need to do to definately match the right color with your olive tone:

** The correct way to match foundation to skin is to apply DIRECTLY AT THE JAW BONE. This is the spot on your face that gives the real color of the skin. Comparing on the cheeks or forehead will result in the wrong match because no one has completely even-tone skin. You will most always end up with a color that is too light or too dark comparing in this fashion.

Take a friend with you if you are going to a local pharmacy or beauty supply store. You can also go to a department store and have a professional consultant match you with the correct foundation color. Make sure they are checking at the jawbone ( use your friend as the second eye).

Following the above steps will defingately give you the proper color for your skin tone!! Good Luck! How do i find the best shade for my foundation?
www.christinacosmetics.com - the one for darker skins

you can look into Iman's line of cosmetics
wow. you look nothing like your avatar!

okay. so here's what you do. read very carefully.

Go to a MAC stand or store in the mall and tell an employee you need a light liquid foundation or whatever kind you use. They will test different shades on your face so you can see what works best. The foundation is around $30 depending on what kind you get. Even though the price may seem high compared to drug store prices it last a while and will make you look beautiful. [ even though you akready are.]
Go to everydayminerals.com. This company has the best color selection and the quality of the minerals are fantastic too. You could also get samples for free or get a discount code through their blog-
You cant really tell from the photo your exact type of foundation. Go to a department store like macys or lord and taylor, or a makeup store like sephora or vicotoria secrets. They will have make up line up for you to try. Put it just along your jawbone and look into the light. If you can see it, it is the wrong color for you. If you are really having trouble, some bigger department stores have people to tell you what colors look best on you. Go ahead and ask, some will even give you a free makeover so you can see what you look like with it on. once you know what number in foundation you are, either buy it there, or go to a grocery store or drug store and buy it for a lower price. although from brand to brand the colors may vary sligtly. Hope this helps!
Okay, here's what u do... btw u r really pretty! Okay, turn ur hands around so that u cannot c ur nails... Then look at the inside of ur wrists (right b4 ur hand starts) and THATS the color of foundation u should use!... Hope this helps!

    GOD BLESS!
i would go to mac store and ask them for help they are awesome! i think u might need c40 studio fix from mac althoug its studio fix but it is not very strong and gives a beautiful bronze color and looks very natural .. if u shop in a different store just grab few of them and try it on in the store and find what looks good on u ! good luck !
u should try buying professional makeup at a makeup counter because they can help you test different color so you can have a really good match!!!
Go to a make up counter where there are assistants that will help you.Get them to apply some samples on your skin, then step outside in daylight to see what suits you best.Biggest mistake we make is testing on the back of our hands, our skin tone is different on our faces. And in shops lighting too can be different to daylight outside, so that can confuse our senses.

I'm asian %26amp; I have asian skin. HELP! and light tones just seem too light.A question about shades of foundation for asian skin?
Go to a Clinique counter. They'll find your PERFECT shade.

    Works for me :D

xXxA question about shades of foundation for asian skin?
im asian, i usually go with beige. my skin is lightly tanned, more like a light brown, im not pale at all. your best bet is to go with beige, neutral, or medium. hey, you could even mix them up and create a color that is unique to you! your best bet is to go to a department store and have them pick out a color for you. it is free, usually by appointment though. if you tried neutral and medium and that is too dark, try beige. if beige is too light, then you should mix beige with neutral. hope that helps!
    Try Wei East

Golden Light Loose Powder by gloMinerals... It is WONDERFUL!! I used to wear a ton of foundation and nothing ever works and it makes you break out....

I have asian-like, olive/yellower skin tones and it is what I use. Use it with a high quality brush and you wont have to use foundation or any other powder, except blush/bronzer if you like it. It is the kind of make-up that adapts to your skin- rather than puts a layer of color on it....

Also, if you order it on Ebay it is about 1/2 the price than from the website. Changed my life.

Also, you didn't say this, but I tell everyone: if you are worried about skin problems/blemishes- the best thing you can do: drink TONS of water- at least 64 ounces per day- you will see dramatic results in your skin!
    go wit neutral

make sure it matches the color of your neck thou

    not your face

my face color is brighter than my neck for some reason

so i would have to go with a darker neautral to match my neck
I think you might need to specify more? what kind of asian? usually japanese are more fair, chinese have a more yellow tint and then filipinos are darker, etc.

you should try prescriptives though. they blend it customized to your skin tone.
Hi! I am also Asian and a make up artist.

There are over 63 shades for Asian. I can't really tell what's the best shade for you since I haven't seen you and you also need to see the reaction of the foundation if you are going to use it everyday. Also, I would suggest you to try shades in stores like Prescriptives or MAC (I am pretty sure you'll get a perfect shade for you in this stores) then don't buy it yet. Wait for 1 hour and if the shade will not change that much after you perspire a little it is a good thing. Hope you'll find the right shade for you.

Why are there more shades of foundation makeup for white women than women of color?

women of color = any woman that is not white(not just blacks) keep up with the lingo people

I DON'T WEAR MAKEUP(aka WAR PAINT lol), but my roommate said that she couldn't find a color in her shade, and when we were looking online there were only like 4 or 5 different shades for women (J-lo's color and darker(all the way to black women))and 8 or 9 for white women, now i'm not trying to offend anyone, but i honestly don't see a variety of shades when it comes to white people(most are about the same color). I didn't make the rules on shades of white folks, white people did that to themselves. Why are there more shades of foundation makeup for white women than women of color?
    I have two theories.

Theory # 1: Companies are usually more drawn to the group that they will make the most money off of. There are around twice as many white people in America than women of color (according to the last census anyway) so the companies benefit more from the white people who buy their make-up. Therefore, they are going to cater to paler skin tones.

Theory # 2: Companies either don't know or don't care (or a combination of the two) that their one or two ';dark'; shades will not fit even 30% of the women of color who the product is geared towards.

If your friend is still having trouble finding a shade, I recommend b.l.a.c. minerals. Women of color know that if it's hard to find regular foundation in our shade, it's 5x harder to find our shade in a mineral makeup. Fortunately, someone had a wonderful idea. There are shades on this site that cater to women of ALL ethnicities and there is a WIDE variety of healthy make-up for women of darker complexions. My perfect shade (something I have never been able to say before) is ';Amber.';Why are there more shades of foundation makeup for white women than women of color?
Clarice is 100 percent right. The original poster AND Deeya are typical racists. Report Abuse

Because women of colour really don't need foundation, their skin stays fresh and young even in their latter years. white women on the other hand tend to age faster due to the lack of melanin in their skin. Besides, white people turn all sorts of colours, blue when cold, brown when baked, pink when embarassed... so they need more variety lol
White companies don't care about women of color.
White women wear too much makeup.
Because white women are oh so LOVELY!!!
Well, my skin is so pale that I can't even find foundation that is light enough. It goes both ways.
If it helps at all, it wasn't until very recently I could find a shade that came close to my skin. I lived in a city that was predomently German and all the makeup was very pink. Some idiot chick told me I needed to look like her. . .my skin is olive or lots of yellow. . .I had an interesting comment for her and I hope informative. Now I live where it is at least 95% hispanic and all the eyebrow and mascara is coal black. Seems I can't win. I was facinated at a drug store that had lots of make up and they had the greatest colors for people with brown eyes and I wished I was younger. . .spectacular stuff. . .look around more. You're looking for fair treatment. . .and life isn't fair. But you can complain to those companies. They listen to people that speak up. If you don't like something, do something about it. I've been working on getting that medium brown eyebrow pencil without so much red in it. It's not out there either. Seems they just keep making the same ol' colors with new names and none of them match me either.

I guess you don't know many white people. . .they come in all shades and colors too. Looks like you have a bigger problem than looking for shades of makeup.
At first I thought this was a good question.

Then I read the rest of it. What do you mean in the last sentence '; white people did that to themselves';? How can white people, ( or any color ), '; do that to themselves';? No one has any control over the shade or color of their skin.

In response to your comment about not seeing a variety of shades on white people and most are about the same color, obviously they are the same color, they're white. The same for any color. Any color can come in a variety of shades.

I do think there should be more foundation shades for women of color.

I also think your question is dripping with racism.

    EDIT: You contradicted yourself. First you say '; I honestly don't see a variety of shades when it comes to white people.';

    Then you say '; whites can be pale, beige or tan, that's it.';

Are you a dermatologist? Are you an expert in skin?

Are you a cosmotologist? Do you do in depth studies of skin color and tone?

    MAC Foundation shades?

I want a MAC foundation but I don't know which shade.

I live no where near a MAC store or counter, so I can't go in a try it.

I currently ware HUFE HD Foundation and I'm about 125/130.

I used to wear CoverGirl foundations in Natural Ivory and Classic Ivory(don't know the numbers)

I have light slightly medium skin.

Yellow or Beige undertones i think(my veins are green).

I have allot of acne scars, red spots, and blemishes if that makes a difference in the NW NC thing.

what do you think would be best to try?MAC Foundation shades?
I use NC15 in MAC make up, I'm sorta pale. Recently I purchased foundation from MAC and it was in the right box, but wrong color. It was NW15. and I think that would be your color, going by how you described yourself. I honestly, honestly think NW15 would be perfect. MAC make up covers EVERYTHING so don't worry about blemishes, and it stays on ALL day, no joke. The technique I use for putting on foundation is pour a little on a sponge and I dab, this seriously hides acne and red spots, like I have naturally red skin, but you wouldn't be able to tell with this make up.MAC Foundation shades?

How Do i Find out Which MAC Foundation shade suits me?

I want to order Mac foundation online, as i there is not a Mac shop where i live, the closet one is a 2 hour plane trip. So you can see im in a bit of a squeeze.

i have an oily skin type, and red blotches, and i do have large pores. So im thinking ill have to order a primer as well, i am quite light skinned with a hint of olive.

    can someone please help me!!

i can send pictures,How Do i Find out Which MAC Foundation shade suits me?
Hi MissK, to be honest with you, I would not recommend MAC foundation if you have oily skin (especially if you're prone to breakouts). MAC seems to exacerbate this problem. I would recommend a mineral foundation like Sephora Brand Mineral foundation with SPF 10 because it has only 8 ingredients total compared to most other foundations that have like 20 (which less is always better especially for oily skin). Sephora also sells Smashbox brand which has a WONDERFUL makeup primer that's 60% water based (which won't clog pores or irritate the skin) and it makes your skin feel smooth and silky and controls oil ALL DAY LONG!!! I use it myself, and I tend to have oily skin in the summertime and I find that I only have to blot my nose maybe once during the day (and that's usually around 4 pm after having worn it since 10am). I would also grab some of the Shiseido blotting papers from Macy's. They are double sided (one side has a powder finish and the other side doesn't) so you can decide the blotting finish that you want: a freshly, lightly powered face, or a matte finish with no powder. Anyway I use all of these products and they work WONDERS. The only product you may have trouble ordering online is the foundation...not because it isn't available or it's hard to find, but just the issue of knowing which color you need. But Sephora has an excellent return policy (whether you order online or purchase in the store) and anything that doesn't work out for you can be returned or exchanged (I think they give you 30days to do so). But you know what, here's Sephora's customer service phone number. I bet if you describe your skin color to them , they could recommend a color for you! 1-877-737-4672. They are very nice and helpful I'm sure you'll find exactly what you need. I'll provide the links below for all three products. How Do i Find out Which MAC Foundation shade suits me?

To be honest I wasn't impressed with MAC foundations because they feel heavy on the face. If you want to find out about the colors, just go to MAC's website and look for ';Live Chat'; the woman there really helped me to find my color.
you are an NC shace. which stands for neutral cool. if you're olive toned then go for a ligh NC shade.

avoid NW because that is neutral warm, for pinker undertones.

i am an nc30 and i am lightish skinned.

Should i wear a diffrfnt shade of foundation in the summer?

think it may be too pale now the good weather is here, but i dont want it too look tooo dark and have a tide mark , lol. advice please on choosing the right one.Should i wear a diffrfnt shade of foundation in the summer?
Nope, foundation isn't for changing the colour of your complexion, you have to wear the colour that's meant for your skin tone, I wear Ivory which is one of the lightest shades but I dont want tide makes round my jawbone, I look to pale for summer to I have just started putting fake tan on before I go to bed then when my tan has built up i can get away with just wearing concealer here and there and a bit of bronzer.

Dont tan your face with real sun you should always check that there is SPF protection in your foundation, eye cream and facial moisturiser you dont want to look wrinkley before your time!!!Should i wear a diffrfnt shade of foundation in the summer?
What I do is have one paler shade of foundation and one slightly darker shade and i mix the 2 together. I mix some of it to my moisturiser and put that on my neck (so no tide marks) and put a little bit of bronzer on top.
i usually buy a foundation 2 shades darker than one i usually use.

i mix a little of both together each time i put it on..... and as the rest of ur body colours in the summer (tanning) just add a little more of the darker one to ur normal one until u end up just needing the new darker one on its own.

hope this helps. works for me.

    x
i wear make up everyday, full face, but tend to leave the foundation during the summer months unless i'm going out at night, this is ideal time to get a bit of colour naturally andlet your skin breathe, you will achieve a healthy glow just by going about your day to day business, your colour changes weekly during the summerso keeping up with i is almost impossible, use a moisturiser with a little colour in it, thats the easiest way, i use the garnier one, it gives you a tad of colour each time, that way it ';keeps up';with your skin colour as you tan. does this make sense????
Beauticians recommend a tinted moisturiser for the summer, it doesn't give as full coverage as a foundation, and looks more natural .Choose one with an SPF if you can!

    M : )
YES,YES,YES, make sure it has pf rating to protect your skin from sun damage . you can start out just adding a little darker shade with your winter shade .Gradually go darker as your skin naturally darkens. Be sure and use sun screen at least 15 on face .39 or more on other exposed skin .The more you protect your skin now ,the younger and wrinkle Free you'll be later . I like the spay on tans .they look good and won't damage your skin. Wear a hat to protect your hair too.
No, keep the same foundation and use bronzer to add colout to your face. Or use johnsons summer face moisturiser xx
i wouldnt use foundation in the summer at all , then you face will tan and your skn will look fab
u should wear a tinted moisturizer.

    Try Rebal by benfit!
yes you should use a slightly darker shade in the summertime.

personally i use a tinted moisturizer with an sunblock in it because of perspiration i like to keep fresh in the heat foundation would be too heavy. and makes me feel kind of sticky
You can go with a slightly darker shade, but I would recommend switching from foundation to a tinted moisturizer. It isn't as heavy and blends well with your skin and the same bottle will work even if you get a little tan. Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Enhancer is great, has sunscreen also.
Boots No. 7 Intelligent Colour is a good choice all year round. I don't know how it works but it is fairly sheer and seems to match my skin tone whether I have a tan or not. Very good for the summer.
if you are tanning then yes a different foundation is needed. i would reccomend one of those tinted moisturisers that builds a tan and if you need it you can get powders that match skin tone ive seen a loreal and avon version and they are quite cheap.

  • Looking for foundation that has shades light enough for pale skin??!?

No matter what Drugstore/ pharmacy brand i use i can not find one light enough. The lightest shade in all of them is still too dark for my skin! My face is an entirely different shade from my neck, i'm like yellow/brown to white here!lol

Can you recommend one, brand and shade?! thanks!Looking for foundation that has shades light enough for pale skin??!?
Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud has her own make up line especially for pale skins. Its called dainty doll.

Otherwise, try foundation that is supposed to change colour on your skin. There's one in revlon.

Or go to a mac counter and ask them what colour they think you should get.

xLooking for foundation that has shades light enough for pale skin??!?
Max factor actually has a really pale foundation powder, Im really pale and Its awesome that I found this foundation its called max factor facefinity compact foundation the shade is 01 and its good for my skin it blends right it. Another good one is L'oreal Paris True match super-blendable powder I got it in the shade of C1 which is Rose Ivory, and thats not the palest shade I think Porcelain is, so that should be really pale.
I am usually too pale for all foundations but I got a sample of Revlon New Complexion foundation the other day and I was the 3 shades darker than the lightest so I'm sure they will have one to suit you :) Other than that Clinque have a good range of foundation for fair skin and so does estee lauder (their double wear foundation is amazing) ask the assistant to find you a shade though as i have a pink undertone so our shades would differ.
Ivory is the palest shade you can get, but in some foundations even there ivory have that darkish orangey tint to it but rimmel stay matt, dream matte mouse and max factorr miracle touch liquid illusion foundations ivorys are all very pale good luck hope this helps : )

    it is kinda expensive

    but it covers EVERYTHING

they even use it for burn victims and etc..

I would go to Merle Norman if there is a store in your area. They will let you try on their makeup and give you expert advice for free any time you want. Prices are reasonable too.
I had the same problem but I find Bobbi Brown really good so would suggest trying it!

Many people say that is doesnt give THAT much coverage, and that that's where Revlon's Beyond Natural concealer comes in.     because you are an NW which means you have (W) warm undertones, its not surprising that you are brunette. Most blondes (like myself) have cool undertones (im a NC27) hense the ';c';

    Foundation shades?

I have a foundation which is slightly darker than my skin colour (beige), and it doesn't really cover up my spots as well as the foundation i have which is much lighter (ivory- my skin colour). Why is this?? I would have thought that a darker colour would cover them up more. Can someone explain this! lol.Foundation shades?
You need to find a foundation exact to your skin tone otherwise you are making them look more obvious. Rub a little on the back of your hand if you can see an outline then you need to go up or down a shade.Foundation shades?
haha ive had this problem you need to moisturise before you put your foundation on and if that dont work then put cocealer all over your face and then your foundation this way you can make your skin lighter or darker no matter what the foundation lol. x
    www.youravon.com/cprzbylski
the darker the faoundation the older youll look.

you should wear your skin color not darker or lighter!

and no thats not the case CONCEALER is what covers the spots or whatever and that should be a shade lighter then your skin. so do the following:

    wash face

    moisturize

    primer

concealer-only to eye area and/or blemishes adn spots

    and/or foundation

    and/or powder

oh and look for your shade apply a some from your cheeck to your neck one line and if it blends quick taht should match your skin color OR go to a professinal so they can get you the right shade
Often when you cover up spots with lots of make-up it just draws more attention to it, making it look worse than it did before the make-up was applied.

I think the reason the foundation that matches your skin shade works better, is purley because it matches your skin shade. It makes it look less obvious your wearing it and you can also blend it into your skin really well.

Don't forget, it also depends on what type of foundation you bought. If they're different types that would be why.
Foundation has to match your skin tone. Too light you'll look like a ghost, too dark you'll look splotchy. Apply concealer only to areas that need concealing...zits, circles under eyes, and shadow around nose. Then apply the foundation lightly over that followed by powder. (If you use liquid). However, if you get a tan your spots will look less noticeable.
why do you need to know if ivory works well and is your face colour ?

the darker foundation would be used as a highlighter for the spots in this case

if you put dark bits where you spots are, then people are bound to notice, even if they cant see a spot

they'll be able to see the dark foundation standing out

    heh

    xx
It could be that they are a different make or some foundations (e.g. Boots) have different levels of coverage - maybe one is a light coverage %26amp; the other is heavier ??!!
It's the coverage and formula, not the color. Try a concealer. I like Arbonne.

  • How do you find the right shade of foundation?

    At a drugstore..

I can never seem to get it right!

The one time I do, I unintentionally get a tan and it doesn't work anymore :(

I'm Asian and everything seems too pink for my yellow undertones. *sigh*How do you find the right shade of foundation?
OK, so I think everyone has this problem. In fact I think more than 75% of women are using a foundation shade that doesn't match their skintone. You've already figured out your undertone so that should make it easier since most drugstore foundation displays separate their warm and cool tone foundations. One of the biggest problems with finding the right shade is the lighting! The way a foundation looks on your skin in the drugstore might not even be how it looks in real life since the lighting is different. This goes for all makeup stores and makeup counters since most stores (including MAC and Sephora) are lit in a different and more flattering light. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I've swatched a foundation on at MAC and Sephora and thought it was my perfect shade but once I went outside in the natural light, it was the wrong match. So, what I learned to do is to take several foundation shades and swatch it onto your neck (near the jawline and not your face because most people's faces are either lighter or darker than their neck or bodies and you want it to match the rest of your body esp your neck so it won't look weird). Anyway after you swatch all those shades you think will match you on your neck (side by side so it's easier to compare them...and of course remember which color is which) go out of the drugstore into the natural daylight and see which color disappears or blends in the most! That shade is your perfect shade :)

HOPE THIS HELPSHow do you find the right shade of foundation?
finding the right foundation shade is very difficult. i would suggest that instead of going to a drugstore, go to a department store or a makeup store like Ulta or Sephora. Yes, you will have to pay a bit more for the foundation, but there will be workers there that will be able to help you find the perfect color for your skin. not only will the more expensive foundation look much better than the drugstore one, it will also be much better for your skin and can solve other problems such as dry skin, oily skin, or uneven skin tones.
I have the same problem. I never know if I'm beige or buff. It's all too complicated. I do find that mineral makeup is more forgiving. If you need the coverage that liquid gives you, you can layer mineral makeup. I like it because you can never really find an off shade. It always looks really close in my experience.
To find the right foundation for your skin, the right way is to apply a few shades of foundation on your jawline,

the right foundation for you is the foundation that ';disappear'; when you apply on your skin,

if the foundation is lighter or darker, it will show on your skin
Try to get a color that is lighter than your skin color. Exposure to air can make the foundation darker. x]
Sorry I don't know of any at a drug store but I heard Mac can match asians really well.
try asking the lady at the counter after all she's there for a reason
go and ask an associate for help

Does Almay Smart Shade Foundation work well?

Yes, Smart Shade is great. I study the industry and Smart Shade is doing really well and getting great consumer reviews.Does Almay Smart Shade Foundation work well?

What shades does bare minerals powder foundation come in? Any for darker tones? Thanksx?

I was just at Sephora yesterday. The Bare Minerals comes in all shades and has shades for A/A skintones as well.

I was impressed with the coverage. Have someone give you a mini makeover with the product 1st, to help you determine what shade is going to be best for you. Don't order off of the TV.What shades does bare minerals powder foundation come in? Any for darker tones? Thanksx?
Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Warm Tan, and Deep.

You can see here: http://www.bareminerals.com/on/demandwar鈥?/a>What shades does bare minerals powder foundation come in? Any for darker tones? Thanksx?
Their Tan is a bit pale (I'm olive skinned, Native American)--not sure how the other deeper colors are, but it seems they're always lighter on you than they look in the container.
they come in a large array of colors and yes they do come in darker tones. But i would suggest for you to actually go to a bare minerals store or a sephora store (they carry the product too). SO some one could color match you your foundation and in order for you to fully learn about how to use it (that way you don't just buy a wrong color or get home and not now how to use it)

p.s. sephora is great with helping you learn about the product and teach you how to use it. good luck

What are your techniques for finding the best foundation shade.?

I need help because I always choose to light.

What do you wear and how does it look?

Best foundation you ever tried? What are your techniques for finding the best foundation shade.?
Foundation is the hardest, but most important cosmetic product to shop for. Even if your foundation is just slightly one shade darker or lighter, or more pinker or more yellowoer, it still significantly affects your complexion. So with that said, here are ready made tips that you can take with you next time you go foundation shopping:

Step One: Consider your skin type. If you have oily skin, stick with an oil-free formula. If you have drier skin, select a creamier formula that offers moisturizing benefits.

Step 2: Decide what type of look you'd like to achieve. Foundations can offer sheer to heavy coverage and finishes that range from satiny to matte, creamy to dewy. etc.

Step 3: Determining your skintone: Your skin can be either cool, warm, or neutral. If it is cool, your skin will have lots of pink underhues and will tend to burn easily when in the sun. If it is warm, your skin will have yellow underhues and is more likely to tan when you are in the sun. If it is neutral, your skin has both elements of pinks and yellows. Once you know what your skintone is, you can determine which foundation shades are definetly not for you.

Step 4: Choose 3 shades of foundation that you think will match your skintone the best. Test the colors of your preferred formula on your JAWLINE, which offers the truest facial coloring. Avoid testing the foundaiton on your wrist, fingers, back of hte hand, etc. as the skin on these areas are innacurate of the skin tone on the face. Compare each of the foundation strips.

Step 5: Blend in each of the foundation gently with a makeup sponge. The shade that disappears into your skin the best and most naturally, should be the one. If you find you're between shades, blend two colors together. If you still find that you can't achieve a perfect shade, continue shopping around. Department stores offer the best testers and consultation

Step 6: Bring a hand mirror along so you can view your options in natural light. Remember that foundation cna look different on your skin in fluorescent light than it does in natural light. To avoid a mask-like effect, test your foundation as you would in steps 4 and 5, and after, go to the window of the store and check out the foundation. The one that looks the most natural in this lighting should be your choice.

****To find a foundaiton for your skintone and texture, try out Covergirls TruBlend Foundation, or for an even greater selection, Loreals Trumatch Foundation.

****The best place to test for foundation however is if you go to a department store and get a consultation from the beauty salesperson. What are your techniques for finding the best foundation shade.?
Use your neck as an example. When you put it on and blend it it, it should be pretty close to your color so your face doesn't look to white or dark against your neck. Your neck color and face color should look like they match (obviously). For type, I had Maybeline for a while, but my face couldn't breathe so it go greasy and gross by the end of the day (or earlier on if I went outside for more than 10 minutes). But I just got this stuff called Rimmel LONDON-LASTING FINISH. And usually when I put foundation on, I can wait a minute or two, then my face will start to feel like it's suffocating. But when I put this on my face was nice and cool and was able to breathe. And my face wasn't greasy at then end of the day.

Another thing you can do is wash your face with soap. The use a cleaser, then exfoliate, then moisturize. Do that two times a day. And your face will clear up and be nice and smooth. That might help with the breathing part, too. I also use Clearasil face pads (little white, round things). Use those twice a day if you want.

--I suggest 'Velocity' products for the cleaning. I don't know if that's the full company, or if 'Velocity' is by Mary-Kay. Look it up to be sure. Hope that helps! (sorry it was so long)
Makeup is always best applied in natural lighting... Dont choose a cakey foundation - Your face should never be darker than the skin tone on your neck and body. Usually, it's best to choose something a shade lighter.

Almay has a really great product called ';Smart Shade Makeup'; - The foundation is white but, when applied, matches and blends to your skin tone.

I personally am not a huge fan of liquid foundations as I find them heavy on my face and not as natural-looking as a powdered product. I've found some good powdered products at the Body Shop which don't irritate the skin and give the appearance of a natural complexion.

Overall though, I'm definitely sold on the Sheer Cover line that you see advertised on television (you can purchase it online). I was skeptical, but the makeup is produced from natural minerals and blends exceptionally well into any skin tone. They also have an AMAZING concealer on the market that can hide any blemish or dark spot and wears all day long without feeling caked on.

Obviously, you get what you pay for - If you're willing to spend a little more money to achieve an even skin tone and match foundation colours to your natural complexion, you're bound to get a great result!
the absolute best foundation i've found in over 25 years is bare minerals by bare escentuals. i've been using it for 5 years now. i found the perfect shade by going to ulta, and trying on the samplers; after that i mostly ordered online. it looks and feels completely natural, and is actually good for your skin - the national skincancer foundation recommends this brand to their patients. the foundation costs 25.00, but lasts me about one year. check it out for yourself at any sephora, ulta, or nordstrom store, to see how you like it on your face, before making a decision.
put a dot of it on your face and neck and check wich shade matches the most....and theres almays new foundation that goes on white and the turns to your custom color..
I use the side of my hand near my thumb.

I'm a huge fam of dream matte mousse. And Tru Match.

I don't reallylike the powder foundations, they make my face look cakey.
to tell if it matches ur skin tone i just rub a little on my wrist, and if it matches there then it will match ur face. i really like the mineral powder foundation, it looks MUCH more natural and it comes on easy.
    i wear MAC Studio Fix.

its like a powder and i dont know what that girl is talking about because if you find a shade that actually MATCHES your skin and you dont apply TOO MUCH than it looks perfect and doesnt even look like your wearing makeup at all. it does NOT look cakey. You achieve flawless skin.

MAC is the best foundation i have ever tried, but if your looking for something cheaper i would go with TruMatch.

To get a foundation that best fits your skin, i would ask for help. The people at the MAC store helped me find my perfect match %26lt;3.

or, you could just try it on your hand.

but trust me, choosing ';too light'; is so much better than choosing too dark.

    Can i wear a foundation/powder 1-2 shades lighter?

cuz i want my skin to look much brighter rather than tired and dull and

even with a foundation or powder in my exact skin tone it

it doesnt brighten my face making it look dull...so is it ok and

will it look naturalCan i wear a foundation/powder 1-2 shades lighter?
Yes, but I don't suggest going lighter than one shade. A foundation that is too light can give your skin an ashen, grey appearance. Just make sure to blend it in with your neck and ears. Wear some blush to brighten as well. Can i wear a foundation/powder 1-2 shades lighter?
Go for the foundation that matches your skin tone and if you want to brighten your face, use a highlighting powder. If you just go with something that's 1-2 shdades lighter than your skin tone it's just going to look bad. It'll just look like a mask of discoloration on your face. When you highlight your face, try dusting the powder across the center of your forehead, your cheekbones, down the bridge of your face, and on your chin. That should help subtly brighten up your face. Good luck!
it okay, I use a shade lighter to blend my skin tone. However you need to put the foundation in a thin layer so it can look nature. check out he link from allure on how to apply foundation.

    1) To prevent makeup from settling into lines and acne scars, prep skin with a primer. Smear it on everywhere you intend to apply foundation or concealer. We love Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer because it dries in seconds and doesn't feel filmy. (Or, to kill two birds with one stone, try Cover Girl Outlast All-Day Liquid Makeup)鈥?it's primer and foundation in one formula.)

    2) Depending on your preference, dampen a sponge or brush (our picks: the tear-shaped BeautyBlender Sponge and the Giorgio Armani Foundation Brush by wetting it and squeezing out excess water with a paper towel.

    3) Pour a nickel-size drop of foundation into your hand, and dip the brush or the pointed end of the sponge into it. For light coverage, we love Giorgio Armani Foundation Brush, which is radiant but not slick; for medium coverage, Est茅e Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup is the most durable one we've tried; and for oily or acne-prone skin, Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation is oil-free and feels as light as a serum, but provides surprisingly thorough coverage. If you like pressed-powder foundations, try L鈥橭real Paris True Match Super-Blendable Powder. And when it comes to tinted moisturizer, nothing beats Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20.

    4) Spread the foundation onto your skin in the thinnest possible layers. Makeup artists swear that if you start at your forehead and move down toward the nose, cheeks, and chin, you'll get the most natural-looking finish. (It helps to smooth down all the little hairs on your cheeks and keeps you from ODing on tricky areas, like your jawline.)
I am a professional makeup artist and I like to use 2 or 3 shades of foundation, your color 1 or 2 lighter and 1 or 2 darker. highlight and diminish where you want to. Under eyes, highlight, below cheekbones diminish, cheekbones highlight, you know. Light colors make things appear larger, and dark makes it look smaller. p.s. thats how you get amazing looking cleavage! lol
One or two shades lighter is okay, but you have to make sure you blend very well and the rest of your body is in tact too. If your face is pale and your neck is tan ... That would look quite strange.

I would just mix some liquid highlighter with my foundation/tinted moisturizer so I get more of a dewy glow instead of just dull foundation.

You could also dust some highlighting powder (MAC MSF's are really good for that) so that your face looks brighter.

Personally, I think if you brighten your eyes and put some blush one, your face is usually brightened enough.
    NONONONONONONONOOOOOO

    Trust me!

If you want to make your face look brighter use bronzer to highlight your features.

Wearing foundation and powder too light will not brighten your face. Just make you look pale and gross. Especially since your face will be a completely different colour the the rest of your body.

If you want to look natural go for your skin color, or just use sheer mineral powder.
You can wear comapct which is lighter than your skin....Why dont you use a comapct like Maybelline. It is silky smooth and non -patchy which blends with your skin very well... They have multiple shades for your skin.....Maybelline Whitestay gives you an instant glow to your skin.
You know, professional make up artists say to go 1-2 shades lighter for a brighter look and a more natural look.
Yeah you can do whatever you want.

I suggest putting on a tint of blush or bronzer for a bit of color.
Yes, but make sure you apply it evenly on face, neck, etc.
yeah but try it out beforehande lol you dont want to experiment on say...the night of a date
yes but make sure u apply on all odr revealing parts to give an even tone thruout like ur neck ur shoulders n ur hands

Is this the wrong shade of foundation for me?

This is the first foundation Ive ever bought so...

I'm a tan Asian. I bought Bare Naturale in Sun Beige and found that while it matches how dark I am, it doesn't match the color-- like pinker than my yellow-undertone skin. Is this the wrong shade or is it supposed to do that?Is this the wrong shade of foundation for me?
If the color that you chose is more pink than your skin tone, its safe to say that it's not the right color for you.

Foundations come in all sorts of colors. You might want to test them out at a counter before buying it to make sure it looks right.

For now, since you've already bought this foundation, you could always invest in some setting powder similar to your color. Is this the wrong shade of foundation for me?
If you can see a line where the foundation stops and your skin starts, its the wrong shade. Foundation should blend so well you can't tell you are wearing it. Always test a foundation on your jaw line before buying. Sounds like you got the wrong shade.
If you like how it looks, then keep it.

If you don't, you should find something with a yellow undertone. If you need help with matching, go to a cosmetic counter. I don't suggest going to drug stores, since most of the items sold there don't have testers.
Yes its definately the wrong shade. I'd have to see your skin color in a picture to tell you your perfect shade. If you can I could tell you right away.
    Yes

Make sure the undertone is right before buying.

Since you use L'Oreal, I would suggest True Match in the Warm line.
    Wrong shade.

Look for one that is more yellow. Although I'm not sure that that brand really has many yellow based colours.

  • Should I be wearing my foundation a shade lighter?

I have very oily skin all over my face and I find that it darkens my foundation. So should i be using a shade lighter to counteract the darkening by the oil? Im currently using clinique superfit foundation in 09 beige and almost makeup powder in medium. What would be a shade lighter than the beige?Should I be wearing my foundation a shade lighter?
The oil in your skin shouldn't make your foundation darker. It sounds like you aren't using the right shade for your skin. Try a different shade or even a different type/brand. You can also try using a primer underneath your foundation.Should I be wearing my foundation a shade lighter?
No your foundation should match your skin tone as perfectly as possible. Instead try a product to help eliminate your dry skin. Mary Kay has wonderful products for oily skin. Contact an agent in your area for sample products. Once you get the oily skin under control find a good foundation.

    I don't hate you because you're beautiful!

    Contessa
Your foundation should disappear into your face. go to your clinque counter and have them match it to your skin.
If you're asking yourself that, then yeah. Probably.

What's a shade of foundation similar to Lancome's Bisque 3?

It's a little expensive to always be buying Lancome. I'd like to find a shade similar to it, but in a more affordable brand. Thanks! What's a shade of foundation similar to Lancome's Bisque 3?
Try Almay it's around 13 dollars or if you want less expensive Wet n Wild sells a mineral foundation that is goood for around 6 dollars.

What is the best shade/brand of foundation for my skin tone?

I have freckles, but not the usual fair complexion that accompanies people with freckles, any suggestions. What is the best shade/brand of foundation for my skin tone?
Take someone with you to the store. Find an oil-free foundation, and hold the bottles up to your skin for the other person to help you pick out what matches your tone the best. What is the best shade/brand of foundation for my skin tone?
I've been really impressed with L'Oreal True Match colors. At my local drugstore they have this plastic sheet that's attached to the display that you hold up to your face or inner arm to choose your shade. It actually worked for me, and that's never happened before. Also, the shade that it led me to was not a shade I'd have picked from the color that showed through the bottle, but it really did blend into my complexion beautifully. Give it a try!

Also, my local drug stores (CVS %26amp; Walgreens) will let you return a shade that you don't like for a full refund -- no-risk makeup trials!
Without seeing you, it's impossible to give you recommendations. Why not consult someone at the cosmetics counter in a department store?
have a marykay party where you can test sample on your skin. it is free and very helpful. It will give you a good idea of what works with your skin and the combinations of all variety of makeups that will ley your beauty shine!!
It is nearly impossible to pick a shade over the internet because we can't see your skin. You just have to try different colors until you find the best for your skin tone.
i have freckles too and i use bare minerals powder foundation in the medium shade. It is sheer enough it looks really natural.
best way to find out what shade will go best hold the bottle or color close to ur palm and compare...that will get u VERY close to the shade that will nutrulize the freckles...if u go to dark it will be VERY obvious and won't look good at all. If you don't wanna do it yourself then stop by a make-up counter at one of the local deparment stores. Hope That Helps!!
Hi, i would go into a store that sell make up near you and see which ones suit your shade of skin. As i cannot see you i cannot really tell you what colour to use,Plus if i do recommend you one and you go and try it it might be a totally wrong shade for you. But the i think you could benefit from a sheer cover i foundation or a true match foundation as it will adjust to the colour of your skin. I recommend Loreal foundations. Im currantly using infaliable that lasts for 15 hours and it covers everything. also rimmel 12 hour breathable foundation covers up well to. The trick is to get the one nearest to you skin tone, or you will end up orange. I would also recommend trying a few on your face you may feel a little daft applying it in the store but in the past i have bought foundations that suit me and when i i get out in normal light they have been the totally wrong colour. The lights in the shops make buying foundation a night mare, and as some are very expensive it is a lot of money to waste. So apply wait a little then buy.
Your best bet id to go into a big store and a) talk to the sales girls (not the one with the ORANGE face obviously). or b) try a few testers for yourself (do it on your jaw line NOT your hand).

It all depends what kind of look your after, I feel a bit strange if I can't see my freckles, so I use tinted moisturiser most of the time. If I want a bit more coverage I use one of the colour adapt foundations, they even out my skin tone, without making it look like I'm wearing a mask, lol.
    2pts
Your best bet is to go to a makeup counter and get matched by a makeup artist. They'll be able to help you find the correct color and undertone for your skin. And since you have freckles, they'll be able to suggest the correct form of foundation and coverage.

How can i find the right shade of foundation?

I bought the maybelline dream matte mousse in nude but I'm slightly darker.......isn't there a way that I can just make a lighter shade look good/natural ??Thanks. How can i find the right shade of foundation?
Look at the colour of the skin on the inside of your wrist. That will give you some clue as to what shade you need. There is nothing to stop you mixing two colours together to make the right one a lot of make up artists do this.

Look at your skin does it have a warm undertone (go for the browner end of the scale) or is it pale (try the pink end of the scale). .

If you have a dark skin you need something with warm undertones. If you have pale skin go for the lighter shades.

Its trial and error really. The colour nude I often find is quite a dark flat shade try the next one up or down from it. They should have testers so you can see.

And you may find that another companies foundation is better. I usually use Boots No 7 but was getting fed up of the prices and I just found yesterday that the Collection 2000 at half the price foundations are almost the same! So dont just stick with what you know. How can i find the right shade of foundation?
Foundation comes in many different tones because of the light refraction that escalates in times of intense light or dark. It is best if you find a window and use daylight to monitor your skin. Report Abuse

you could buy a slightly darker shade an mix the two.. its always best to try foundation in natural light.

you can ask a shop assistant for a sample, they usually take some out of a tester that does not get put on the shelves and pop it into a small tub.. dab it on your jaw line and if it blends to your natural colour its the right colour for you... alternatively try the soft fleshy side of your thumb near your wrist..this part of the skin closely matches your face colour.. dab three different shades and when you get outside you can see which one is the best for you...
You should have put a tester colour on the back of your hand this is the nearest shade to your face you can get.

Your best bet is to put a darker face powder over the top, also makes a matt finish.
I agree with Smexie, your hands %26amp; your face are 2 totally different colours. Jawline %26amp; near the chin are better...

also out the colour on bare face, go outside in natural daylight, %26amp; ask a friend or look in a mirror..

also ask the sales assitants for advice.

    some comapnies give free samples,

I know Chanel,Lancome etc give you a small sample which you can try at home %26amp; if you wear it a few times you get a feel of the colour. ..

another tip, don't put foundation all over the face, only out it on area of ur face that needs correction %26amp; balancing....it looks much more natural %26amp; doesnt look cakey...

in regards to the foundation being light, you can ask for a slightly darker sample from somewhere(!) %26amp; mix it with the one u have on the back of ur hand...%26amp; ur skin might get lighter in the winter.
buying foundation is easy but it's the testing thats the hardest! never test foundation on your hand because its not always the same shade as you face.but test foundation on your jaw-line because this is the clearest, smoothest and most accurate part of your face to test.dont throw away the foundation-buy a much darker shade and mix the two together to get proffessionally perfect colour! i hope i've helped !xxx
Find a merchant that lets you try before you buy.
Sometimes you can contact the company directly and they can send you a sample with many different shades for you to try and this helps alot especially when you don't know what shade to buy.
Step to the makeup counter at the department store they can better match it for you if you can't afford to buy it get lots of free samples.
that just happend to me a few days ago, but heres a trick look for the color that you think matches the way your skin looks(the color on the package or bottle) and go like 2 shades darker, it might look to dark on the package, but once you put it on it will be fine =]
colour tests should be done just under your chin, your hands are always exposed to daylight so won't give a true colour match. I agree its a nightmare to find the right colour especially if you change brands.
if you can, go to the makeup counter and ask for a consultation. they will match you up with a shade closest to your skin tone.

Anyone use two shades of foundation? ?

I've recently discovered that I have an uneven skin tone (darker around eyes and maybe a tiny bit on upper lip) and that covering it up with one shade of foundation makes me look a bit flat. I notice that many African-American women have this feature too. I'm not a-a, but I would really like advice on how to use two shades of foundation to get a more contoured, less ';masky'; look. Anyone use two shades of foundation? ?
I have a great suggestion, I use Bare Minerals and when you buy the starter kit almost all of the colors come with 2 different foundations. Each only a slightly different shade but that sounds like what you need for yourself. I get mine a Sephora or Ulta. Both have online stores and are in most major malls. If you go to the store they would be happy to try it on you and I think you will love it. It has done amazing things with my skin since I stopped using wet foundation. This one covers perfectly and it's super healthy for you. You can go to http/:www.sephora.com. Anyone use two shades of foundation? ?
Uneven skin tone can come from a number of things and depending on the source of it, then you can decide on a course of action. First, let me ask if you're taking a good vitamin/mineral supplement, eating a good diet and drinking lots of water? If not, making that correction will be helpful. I use an eye cream nightly by aularale.com/7002 called xtra performance eye cream and am getting great results from it. I also use a fade gel from the same company. For covering, use the dark cover stick (pat over darkened area evenly w/make up wedge) then use the next shade darker than your shade of foundation (cream to powder) over that (use same patting method). Then use your shade of foundation all over your face and set w/loose translucent powder. I get great results w/this line and am happy w/the outcome.
Many MUA do this to African-American skin since they have two-toned skin and their makeup often oxidizes.
