How do you find the right shade of foundation?

i have never bought foundation before (or much of any kind of makeup!). I was planning on getting the mineral foundation because i have read it is better for your skin...but i am afraid of choosing the wrong shade....so i was wondering what is the best way to choose a shade? How do you find the right shade of foundation?
hey ok the best way is to pick a few colours which you think would do try them along your jawbone because then you know you wont have a make up cut offline if its the right shade, also dont try them on in the artificial lights of the shop they could look ok inside but you could walk outside and look completely orange,or pale or not the colour you were looking for so i would take a pocket mirror with you and use a tiny bit of the foundation and go outsie and see what its like in the natural light,or get someone at one of the beauty counters to help you.hope this helps xxHow do you find the right shade of foundation?
The best way to find out the perfect shade for you is to ask someone who works there for there perspective (if its a proper makeup counter). If you're too shy or if your buying it from a drugstore or something you can test a bit of the shade on your jawline and if it looks the same as your skintone then its right.

Mineral foundation IS better for your skin but getting a non-mineral foundation with added moisturiser and SPF and taking it off extremely well every night is fine as well. Oh and when buying foundation people usually find that they think they think their skin is darker than it actually is so make sure you test it! Good luck!

Bring a friend, the friend that always has the most perfect makeup. Try a bunch of different shades by different companies on your jawline. Try and stand in some natural light to decide what looks best. Natural light is key to finding the right shade.
get a tester and put some on ur hand and see.I wouldnt use the whole bottle on ur face tho lol
you can test it on your hand or neck to see if its the rigt shade
You have to match your skin tone with the foundation. To see if it matches, just dab a little on your hand and gently rub it around to see what it would look like on your face.
go to mac make-up counter they will do it all for your then tell you your best shade %26amp; show you right then and there, as far as bare minerals, pick fair, medium, or dark, which are you? thats the one you want.
