How do i know what the correct shade of foundation is for me?

Im going shopping at lunchtime, and need some new makeup. Not too sure what colour of foundation or make to buy, I have max factor just now but not too sure of the shade, I have mid brown hair, with a natural tanned complection, and hazel eyes, any tips? Thanks :-)How do i know what the correct shade of foundation is for me?
DO NOT TEST ON THE BACK OF HAND!!! it is not the same colour as ur face, put your hand up to ur face and try it! thats the biggest mistake ppl make. test it on ur jawline, and if it dissappears, so to speak, then thats the right colour :) trust me im a makeup artist xxxHow do i know what the correct shade of foundation is for me?
im a makeup freak and i can never pick the right shade so i go to a professional person at a makeup counter to shade me correctly, I recommend Prescriptives they have this color coding thing they try on your face and they gave me a shade that perfectly matches my skin.
You need to use the tester on the inside of your wrist or the back of your hand

It will show which shade suits your skin type
test a few shades on your jaw (not hand as the skintone is diffrent from face) blend them in and the one that looks most natrual is the best one!
Whatever Suits Is Usually Best.
you should pick the shade that is closest to your own natural skin colour. Foundations are for coverage not for colour and of you want to add a bit of tan again you can brush on some bronzer. Clinque superbalanced is a lovely makeup but is a tad pricey.
just put a little bit on your face and if you can see that the colour is different its the wrong shade , try to get one that it closest to your natural skin colour
the shade of the foundation should be only 1 shade lighter than your skin tone

ask the salesgirl to let you check all the shades near your skin tone on your hand

whichever foundation gives a good effect buy that

but a liquid foundation as they last longer
test it ;)

i read somewhere you're not supposed to test it on the back of your hands because they'd be a little bit darker and are a slightly different shade to your face and if you test it, test it nearer your elbow. I don't know why though.

Or if you test on your face don't wear any makeup when you go and test it on your jaw line and blend blend blend until its completely blended in =)
any foundation that disappears onto your skin is the correct shade of foundation for you. trust me, this information was featured on pursebuzz.com

you can go ahead and check it out...

good luck and hope that helps! :)
i had this problem and i still do i just don't bovered anymore but if you really really can't go without foundation just go to a shop and test them simple! good luck x
NEVER, ever test foundation on your hand/wrist coz you won't get a good match.

Try a bit on your jawline, then have a look at it outside in natural light and if it blends in well enough %26amp; gives you the right coverage, then go back in and buy it
I think the only thing you can do is to go out and test them
anything you do- dont buy a foundation just because it matches your hand!!! you really need to try it on your face so take a little smidgen out of the tester and try it on your cheek or jawline...then go out and look at it under natural light. if it blends then its the one for you.

alternetively, try benefit some kinda gorgeous...it matches almost every skintone and doesnt cake!! ask the benefit counter girl and she'll try it on you.

hope i helped =]
If you get Max Factor pan-stik its really hard to get the wrong color because it blends so easily. I thought I got the wrong color because it looked super dark at the store compared to the online sample color....but it ended up matching my skin perfectly.
Get some testers first. Then go home and look at it in natural lighting and if your happy purchase it on your next shopping trip.
test the foundation on the front of ur hand or on ur wrist. If it blends in, then you'll be good and there ya go, u found ur match!!

Hope this helped u out!!!
you try a little on, thats why they put out ';testers';.
